I'm a little embarrassed...
I'm a little embarrassed. My family is from Jamaica. Although I grew up in the United States, I didn't learn much about U.S. Black History through public education.
Remember the movie Hidden Figures? I had no knowledge until after seeing that movie about the team of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program.
We MUST take steps to overhaul and reform how U.S. History is taught. Reform is long overdue.
But today is a NEW day! My heart is full of JOY seeing so many individuals from different backgrounds celebrating Juneteenth in a meaningful way.
